Influences:
"My biggest influences as a drummer come from a blend of genres and artists that have shaped my musical style. Growing up, I was captivated by Dave Weckl and his intricate rhythms, masterful technique, and the way he blends jazz, fusion, and groove so effortlessly. His work inspired me to approach drumming as not just an instrument, but a voice within the music. Over time, I also found inspiration in drummers like Chris Coleman and Aaron Spears. Growing up in a Spanish Christian church played a pivotal role in my creativity, as it allowed me to explore the dynamic fusion of Latin rhythms with gospel music. My experience with Cirque du Soleil further expanded my rhythmic palette, introducing me to a world of global influences that continue to shape my style."
We asked...Why Gretsch?:
"I choose to play Gretsch drums because they embody the sound and quality I’ve always envisioned as a drummer. Their legendary “Great Gretsch Sound” offers a warmth and resonance that’s both timeless and versatile, making them perfect for the diverse genres I explore. Whether I’m playing intricate Latin grooves, or gospel-inspired rhythms, Gretsch drums respond with clarity and depth. Additionally, their craftsmanship and attention to detail inspire confidence in every performance. Gretsch isn’t just a brand; it’s a legacy of excellence that aligns with my passion for creating music that resonates on a deeper level."
Advice to aspiring musicians?:
"My advice for aspiring musicians is to stay true to your passion and never stop learning. Music is a lifelong journey, and every step—whether it’s practicing rudiments, exploring new genres, or collaborating with others—helps you grow. Embrace the fundamentals of your craft but don’t be afraid to experiment and find your unique voice. Surround yourself with people who inspire and challenge you, and always remain curious about new sounds and techniques. Most importantly, remember that music is about connection. Whether you’re performing, composing, or practicing, focus on creating something that resonates emotionally with you and your audience. Stay persistent, stay humble, and enjoy the beauty of the process."
