Influences:
"I listen to pretty much everything with an open mind, it sounds like a cop out but it isn’t. Everything from Soundgarden to Daft Punk. I’m listening to a lot of Bon Scott era ACDC at the minute and quite a bit of Caribou, but it can change pretty quickly. Jimmy Chamberlain and Matt Cameron were early influences, but Jojo Mayer and Mark Guiliana are who i’m you tubing. I’m also weirding out on Alex Rudingers bass pedal work as i’ve just got hold of a double kick, but……….well, it might take some time!!!!."

We asked...Why Gretsch?:
"Well its pretty obvious! They make the best drums and have the best support network, and now with DW they have the best hardware. I know I sound a bit sycophantic but its like they trust me to play their gear so I’ll do my best to make them proud. I’ve gone with the Broadkaster in Antique Pearl, such a beautiful kit."

Advice to aspiring musicians?:
"The best advice i can give to any up and coming drummers is to try and keep things simple. It’s great to learn a new chop or difficult time signature but if doesn’t suit the track then it won’t work. Getting to Know your kit is really important as well as it’s an extension of you so strip it and clean it even if it’s new.Listen to lots of different types of music and play along, even if you hate it!. It’s great practice to be objective and work your own magic into it. "

Bio:
My name is Rick Jupp and I’ve been the drummer in the band Elbow for around 25 years, and playing drums for over 30 years. I'm now freelance and teach drums to anyone wishing to learn, from primary school age to OAP's incorporating exercise, simplicity, awareness, a mindful approach, co-ordination and groove over chops. We’ve sold in excess of a 2 million albums world wide over the 6 albums we’ve written and have toured pretty much everywhere, including 3 UK and European arena tours.
