Designed to perform equally well on stage or in the studio, Gretsch Grand Prix™ snares are built around a stout 1.2mm aluminum alloy shell with a precise 45º bearing edge. Sonically, it possesses the bite of a metal drum, but with a more controlled fundamental note. Fitted with 302 hoops and Remo® Drumheads, this drum is a winning formula.

Our 6.5x14” Black Nickel over Steel snare drum offers an ideal balance of power, sensitivity, beauty, and value all in one snare drum. Taking advantage of its wide tuning range, you can achieve either a loose, slow and dry sound character or a very sharp, bold and bright attack. It features 2.3mm Triple flanged hoops, an adjustable throw-off, 20 strand snare wire, Remo® drum heads, and 45 degree bearing edges.

Brass shells create a pleasantly warm tone that naturally bridges the gap between wood and steel snare drums. The cutting power of metal is present but balanced out by the dark complexity of brass. Gretsch takes the classic recipe one step further and applies a hammering pattern to the shell. This naturally reduces overtones and creates a powerful, focused sound. The Gretsch hammered brass snare drums are finished with Die-cast hoops, REMO drum heads, adjustable throw-offs and fixed butt plates.

We’ve taken a 1.2mm steel shell and added large hammering to it to focus the tone and give a slightly dryer overall attack. This not only adds to the overall sound but also gives these drums a stunning visual appeal, making them an integral additional to any setup. Available in 5, 6 and 8 inch depths.

The 1.2mm seamless aluminum shell creates a drier tone due to the inherent qualities of aluminum- a focused attack with minimal overtones. Add the 13-ply Rock Maple hoops and you get extra warmth added to the attack along with a massive cross stick sound. The wood hoops are also low profile to enhance playing comfort and feature beveled edges to provide a unique look. Sonically, these hoops produce an earthy, warm timbre with explosive cross-stick clicks- truly a unique addition to any snare collection.

A unique take on our Hammered Steel Series- we’ve added Satin Black 13-ply Rock Maple hoops to this drum to give you a slightly different take on rim shots and cross sticks. The wood hoops also temper some of the inherent overtones to this drum, giving you a balanced blend of warmth, and projection.

Gretsch’s 6.5x14” Maple snare drum is very warm with bright “top end” to the initial attack. Sensitive to the touch, this classic maple sounding snare is an ideal choice for multi-dynamic playing. Constructed using many of the Gretsch features, (Die Cast Hoops, double ended snare lug, Silver Sealer interior), this beautiful instrument is one of the most versatile and reasonably priced snare drums in our assortment.

Dubbed the “Swamp Dawg,” this multi-faceted drum is a versatile addition to the Full Range series. The deep 8"x14" mahogany shell, when tuned low, creates a swampy, dark, throaty, “low-fi” timbre reminiscent of historic recordings from the seventies. At mid and higher tunings, the Swamp Dawg cuts with saturating attack and full body. The 6-ply mahogany shell, 8 tube lugs and triple flange hoops work together to let the drum open up and breath while the 42-strand snare wires and double-ply, coated Remo® Emperor batter head give the drum extra bite and playability.

The Gretsch Walnut snares add another sound and look to the “Full Range” line. The 8-ply walnut shell produces a snappy attack but with a punchy low end- great for lower tuning while also adding extra bottom to higher tunings. We’ve also added a dual maple inlay to the outer ply, giving this drum a look that is as unique as the sound it makes. Due to the construction process and organic aesthetics of walnut, no two drums will look alike, which creates a boutique vibe.

Gretsch specifically developed the 10-ply Gretsch Formula Ash shell for a sharper, more aggressive sound characteristic but with a controlled sustain. We also offer these drums in 6.5x14 and 7x13 configurations to cover any situation. The visual aesthetic of the shell lets the true natural beauty of Ash show through, as no two drums look alike.
