We asked...Why Gretsch?:
I’ve played a lot of kits and own a few from years of playing but I’ve always felt comfortable behind a Gretsch. Growing up and playing on My dad’s or other jazz drummers during intervals and even when starting Those Damn Crows , our first album and first load of shows were played on a Gretsch Catalina. Always wanted to own a Brooklyn and thankfully after many years i’m now playing one.
Advice to aspiring musicians?:
Never give up!
Always follow your dreams and never stop learning.
Always try and serve the song but most importantly have fun!
Bio:
I have been drumming in bands for over 20 years and was very fortunate growing up as my dad was a session musician. Having a view from side of stage or from an orchestra pit and going on to work behind the scenes in shows & pantos gave me a real passion for music.
My love grew even stronger when my old music teacher stormed into my geography class when I was 13, furious that I hadn't chosen music for exams. He pulled me out of that class, explained I wasn't returning and would ring my parents to let them know. He then escorted me to the music room and my first lesson was to open loads of large boxes and set up what turned out to be a drum kit. We tuned the kit by ear as he sat on the piano then jammed 'Shine Jesus Shine' and 'Hey Jude'. I owe a lot to Mr. Jones and his encouragement.
Around the same time grunge was exploding and my urge to jam and be in a band was all I could think of. Albums like Nevermind, Dookie and artists like The Police and Queen were feeding my appetite to hit the drums and pursue a career.
I have been fortunate to share the stage with some incredible artists over the years, also having chart success (No 14 UK Official Charts - POINT OF NO RETURN) & (No 3 UK Official Charts - INHALE/EXHALE) & (No 1 Uk Official Charts - GOD SHAPED HOLE) with Those Damn Crows, playing sold out shows across the Uk & Europe, performing at Download Festival multiple times including the main stage twice and headlining arenas are just some of the many special highlights.
