Damien Ellis


About the Artist
Damien Ellis has been playing drums for about 9 years, and has been studying with Graham Morgan for 4 years. He is currently completing a Bachelor of Music Performance at the Victorian College of the Arts in the Improvisation Stream, and is in his third year. His main passion is jazz music, and his main drumming influences include Philly Joe Jones, Max Roach, Roy Haynes and Tony Williams, among many others.

In 2007 he played at the international jazz festival at Federation Square and crown Casino with the VCA latin ensemble and the Straight No Chaser Big Band. Since then, he has been playing around Melbourne city in bars, clubs and venues in various jazz, funk, and rock bands. He was the winner in Australia’s Best Up and Coming Drummer Competition 2009 Open Age Category, and continues to play in various venues around Melbourne.
